Typically I would make these peanut butter balls for parties and gatherings (before Covid) and they were always a hit! Making them into chocolate peanut butter footballs makes them perfect for game day!
The ingredients you need are pretty simple.
- Peanut Butter (crunchy or smooth)
- Powdered Sugar
- Vegan Butter
- Vanilla
- Puffed Rice Cereal
- Vegan Chocolate Chips
- Coconut Oil

Chilling can be done in the refrigerator or the freezer. The point of chilling the peanut butter footballs is to get the chocolate to harden faster, so they don’t fall apart when dipped in the warm chocolate.

Which brands of chocolate chips are vegan?
Vegan chocolate chips taste no different than regular chocolate chips and melt just as good. You can find these brands at almost any grocery store on the baking isle next to the rest of the chocolate chips!
How To Make Chocolate Covered Footballs
In a large bowl, add your peanut butter and melted vegan butter together.
Stir in your vanilla
Add in sifted powdered sugar and mix together
With your hands, mix in the Puffed rice cereal.

Form about an inch long ball and pinch at the ends to form a small football shape.

Once all the footballs have been shaped, put them on a parchment lined cookie sheet and store in the fridge or freezer until the have hardened up.
In a small pot on the stove, heat the vegan chocolate chips up and stir the chocolate continuously until fully melted. Add about a tablespoon of coconut oil and stir.
Take one football at a time and dip in the chocolate with a spoon, rolling it around until footballs are fully covered in chocolate.
After all footballs have been dipped, Lay them out onto a cookie rack until excess chocolate has dripped off the bottom. Transfer to a parchment lined cookie sheet.

Continue this process until all of them are finished and store in the fridge/freezer until your chocolate peanut butter footballs have hardened up.
How Do I Make The Icing For The Laces On The Footballs?
Using your mixer, add in your sifted powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla and mix on low speed.
Add the icing to a small piping bag with a small round tip.
