Big Cherry Candy

Big Cherry Candy! Yum! One of my favorite childhood treats!

This Big Cherry Candy recipe is a copycat version of the beloved old fashioned candies. Wrapped individually in those baby pink packages, I loved devouring these decadent chocolates with the big cherry center.

I was out with my family one day, when we stumbled into a candy shop in Balboa that had all the old time candies I would enjoy when I was little. When I saw Big Cherry I was excited! No longer eating dairy though, this snack was nothing but a tasty memory which is why I decided to make my own!

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I thought what a perfect dessert this would be to celebrate!

This recipe is quite easy and they taste delicious! So delicious in fact, that when I went to grab these candies to photograph for the blog, someone (my husband) had already eaten some!

What You Need

  • 16 Ounces Vegan Chocolate Chips
  • 1/3 Cup Chopped Peanuts
  • 4 Tablespoons Vegan Butter
  • 3 1/2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 12-13 Maraschino Cherries
  • 3 Tablespoons Maraschino Cherry Juice

How To Make

Start by adding room temperature vegan butter to an electric mixer.

Slowly add powdered sugar to your butter mixture and beat until combined.

Add maraschino juice and mix until you have a even pink colored frosting.

Take the mixture and roll into small balls. Add powdered sugar to hands if it becomes too sticky.

Flatten each ball with the palm of your hand.

Add a maraschino cherry to the middle of each flattened ball then cover the cherry and roll into a ball again.

Place completed balls into the refrigerator while you melt the dipping chocolate.

Melt chocolate in a double boiler and add chopped peanuts to the melted chocolate.

Remove chilled balls from the fridge and dip each on into the chocolate using a fork and place onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Once all balls have been dipped in chocolate, place back into the fridge to chill and harden up.

To get a thicker chocolate shell like the original candies. Take the chilled candies out of the fridge and double dip them back into the chocolate a second time.

This recipe makes about 12-13 candies

Enjoy your homemade big cherry candy!
